Canadian-born Paul Harnden moved to the UK after university to study shoemaking methods in London. Paul Harnden is known as a very craftsmanlike designer who uses advanced technical skills, and now also handles menswear, womenswear and bags. As John Galliano has stated that he usually wears Harnden's clothes, it is a brand that represents Artisan, which is reputed to have cult-like popularity from fashionistas and celebrities with strong attention to details. His work, which has nature as its theme, is characterised by a design with an edge in the rusticity in which the material like washed-out material is brought to life by handwork. With his comment "it is in direct opposition to what Walter Benjamin called 'The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction'" and the belief that the act of reproduction undermines the 'aura' of the object, his works are full of philosophy and love, clarifying his own clean sound to this increasingly noisy world.
